All Dressed Up: A History of Clothing through Paintings

All Dressed Up: A History of Clothing through Paintings In-Person

In Nancy Baker's presentation, you will learn how paintings show you a person’s occupation, social status, and political or religious position. You’ll see how children’s clothing changed over time.  We’ll look not just at how hats, clothing, accessories, and shoes reveal a way of life, but also how artists used techniques on canvas to show sheen, detail, and texture.

About the presenter: Nancy Baker is a Classicist by training and has taught classical languages, philosophy, and the history of ideas for many years. In retirement she has been doing adult education and programming, has been a docent at the Currier Museum of Art for over ten years, and is a determined advocate for free public libraries by serving as the Chair of her local library Board of Trustees.

This event is done in collaboration with Rivier University's RISE program.
