Afternoon Book Discussion: Hillbilly Elegy, by J. D. Vance

Afternoon Book Discussion: Hillbilly Elegy, by J. D. Vance Online

A deeply moving memoir with its share of humor and vividly colorful figures, Hillbilly Elegy: A Memoir of a Family and Culture in Crisis by J. D. Vance is a passionate and personal analysis of a culture in crisis—that of white working-class Americans. The disintegration of this group, a process that has been slowly occurring now for more than forty years, has been reported with growing frequency and alarm, but has never before been written about as searingly from the inside. For a large segment of the United States, it is an urgent and troubling meditation on the loss of the American dream.

We will plan to meet on the library lawn, please wear masks and bring your own chair. If the weather is bad, we will meet on Zoom so please register for this event so you can get the meeting code if needed.

Join us at 1:30pm the third Tuesday of the month for a lively discussion on a book chosen by the group.  Books are available at the Circulation Desk.
