(Virtual) Genealogy Club: The Dangers of Online Family Trees

(Virtual) Genealogy Club: The Dangers of Online Family Trees Online

It’s very easy to find the name of an ancestor that looks as though he’s that elusive grandparent you’ve been hunting!  The surname sounds familiar, and the given name seems correct, maybe. The problem is that too many “casual” family researchers simply pop the name into their tree and move on to the next “possible” relative. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen this happen. This creates enormous problems for researchers both casual and professional. We’ll take a look at the proper way to research an ancestor in order to ensure you’ve found the correct individual before you simply “pop the name” into your tree!
