Do you know how to knit and purl? How to cast on? Then you're ready to learn about knitting socks! Learn the basics of knitting a sock in this 4-week class.

We'll learn the steps by knitting a small sample sock (perfect as a pet stocking or to hang on your holiday tree!) - cuff and leg, heel flap, heel turn, gusset and gusset decrease, foot and toe shaping - so you can create a real pair of socks for yourself - or as gifts for your family!

Equipment: Please bring one (1) set of five (5) double-pointed knitting needles, size 4 (3.5 mm), no longer than 6" long. Click here for an example. Needles are available on Amazon, and at Walmart and Joann's Fabric Stores. Yarn, stitch markers, tapestry needles and printed instructions will be provided. Knitting needles are not provided.

Schedule: Class will meet for 1.5 hours everyTuesday in September, beginning at 5:30pm. and each session will cover:

• Week 1 (September 5): Yarn, stitch marker and tapestry needle distribution, and sock "architecture." We'll cast on and begin the cuff.
• Week 2 (September 12): Heel flap and turn,
• Week 3 (September 19): Gusset and gusset decrease, and begin the foot,
• Week 4 (September 26): Toe shaping and grafting/kitchener stitch.

In order to get the most of this class, it is strongly recommended that you attend all four classes.

There will be homework! Please complete each section reviewed in time for the next class. For example, between the first (Sept. 5) and second (Sept. 12) classes, please complete the cuff and leg so we're ready to learn the heel flap and turn on September 12. 

This is not a beginning knitter class. Registrants must know how to cast on stitches and how to knit and purl.

Note: The sock in the image is for demonstration and teaching purposes only. All class socks will be knitted using one color of yarn.
